Subscribing End Users Through a Service

These steps explain how to add an end user to a subscription by using the Subscribe handler in a MEP service. It is assumed that the MEP service is an SMS/mobile campaign.

Note: Depending on your region and the type of service you are running, you will need to use the Double Opt-In handler initially to confirm that the end user wants to be subscribed to a service.

To add an end user to a subscription through a service:

  1. Click the Services tab, then select the service that you want to subscribe end users through.

The selected service opens in the Service Editor page.

Note: If you set up a service using the previous beta editor, and you still want to use that editor, click the Legacy Editor button at the bottom of the page

  2. Within the Handlers navigation pane on the left-hand side of the page, under Manage Subscriptions, select the Subscribe handler, and add this to the service at the point where you want the subscription to occur—for example, this might be directly after the Double Opt-In handler.
  3. Select the newly added handler.

The Handler properties appear on the right-hand side of the editor.

  4. In the Handler properties, set the subscription you want to add the end user to:
    • For most services, choose By Subscription. Choose the subscription collection and subscription name from the drop down list.
    • Choose By EL Expression if you are using one service to subscribe end users to multiple campaigns. You will be prompted to enter a valid EL Expression, as well as at least one Fallback subscription. For information about expressions, see Overview.
    • Choose Auto-Generated Mailing List for campaigns that need to split users by time period. A new mailing list is automatically created for each period. You will be prompted to select a Subscription Collection, Subscription Prefix, and set a Creation Frequency.
  5. Click Save.

After this handler, we suggest adding a SMS message that tells an end user that they have subscribed or, in the case of a user who has previously subscribed, that they are already subscribed.
